OUR PURPOSE

Creation of the Andrew Ziehl Foundation

The Andrew Ziehl Foundation was created by Lindsay Ziehl (MBE) in memory of her son, who passed away in 2020. The foundation works to remember Andrew by embodying his kindness, gentle nature, and giving spirit. Andrew’s values are channeled into the work by the board members of the foundation, who have decades of experience working against gender-based violence.

Our Motivation

South Africa has some of the worst gender-based violence statistics in the world. Despite various public campaigns and help offered to victims, abuse statistics are not declining. From our experience, victims shy away from proceeding with criminal charges against their abuser and are very likely to return to their abuser, even after a period of refuge in a shelter. A new approach is needed, to motivate and encourage these people to take the brave step to free themselves from these traumatic and abusive situations.

How we are challenging the the status quo?

The Andrew Ziehl Foundation supports the brave people who have taken the difficult and challenging step to leave and prosecute their abuser. We assist with their development and growth, opportunity training and quality of life enhancement opportunities. This is done in a strategic way, where each beneficiaries situation is individually assessed, opportunities to assist identified and implemented.

Very importantly, for the welfare of the beneficiary and to ensure that our sponsors donations are unitized in the most effective and beneficial way, each beneficiary is held accountable and guided through each step of their support . We manage all financial aspects of the assistance.
